SES MACQUARIE HILLS

Objectives

Remove one large (approximately 25m) failed eucalyptus tree in the rear yard of a residential property in the NSW Central Coast suburb of Macquarie Hills.

Challenges

The major challenge with this contract:

• The tree was approximately 25metres in height and had failed at the root plate, leaning onto, and supported by the boundary fence and neighbouring shed.
• The tree was unstable and subject to further movement due to a combination of waterlogged ground and high winds. There was significant assessed risk of further damage if this tree was not removed urgently.

Solutions

• Enviro Trees allocated this job to a local Tree Partner with the skills and experience required to undertake a job with this risk profile.
• Liaison with council to arrange traffic permits was undertaken, along with the engagement of a traffic control company to manage traffic flow along this busy residential street.
• Liaison with the local electricity power company was undertaken to gain emergency response from them and allow the placement of ‘tiger tails’ over the power lines, to allow the crane to commence work safely.
• The unstable nature of the tree required a 200- tonne crane to be used to stabilise and allow the removal of the tree.
• Our Tree Partner liaised directly with the property owner to arrange access for inspection and discuss potential access for work crews.
• The tree was dismantled and mulched and removed from the site and the site left clean tidy.
